Human Resources Generalist

YES’ mission is to serve homeless and at-risk youth by providing critically-needed resources which empower them to become self-sufficient. YES provides these resources to youth experiencing homelessness through trauma-informed support, develops leadership and employment readiness of youth and partners with youth to advocate for systems of change.

COMPENSATION: $60k - $65k - salary is dependent on experience.

Hours: Full-time/Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm

DAY TO DAY:
The Human Resources Generalist supports the full employee lifecycle and provides day-to-day HR operations support across the organization. This position coordinates recruitment and onboarding, assists with employee relations, manages HR systems and records, supports payroll and benefits administration, and helps ensure compliance with organizational policies and employment regulations.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the HR Generalist works closely with supervisors, employees, and external HR partners to maintain efficient HR processes and contribute to a positive employee experience. This role focuses on operational execution and system oversight, with HR decisions made in coordination with the Executive Director and, when appropriate, members of the leadership team.

Responsibilities:

Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Coordinate recruitment activities, including posting positions, screening applicants, scheduling interviews, and conducting reference checks.
  • Support hiring managers throughout the hiring process.
  • Prepare offer letters and onboarding materials.
  • Facilitate new hire onboarding and ensure completion of required documentation and training.
  • Maintain current job descriptions and recruitment files.

Employee Relations and Employee Experience

  • Serve as a resource for employees and supervisors regarding policies, procedures, and general HR questions.
  • Support supervisors in documenting performance, attendance, and employee relations matters.
  • Assist with workplace investigations and gather documentation as directed.
  • Help promote a positive workplace culture through communication, consistency, and employee support.
  • Coordinate employee feedback tools such as stay surveys and follow-up activities.

Payroll, Benefits, and HR Administration

  • Prepare payroll changes and coordinate payroll processing with the organization’s payroll provider.
  • Maintain accurate employee data and payroll records.
  • Assist employees with questions related to payroll and benefits.
  • Coordinate benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations.
  • Support administration of the retirement plan and other benefit programs.
  • Maintain personnel files and HR documentation.

HR Systems and Data Management

  • Maintain employee information within HRIS, payroll, benefits, and learning management systems.
  • Ensure data accuracy and completeness across platforms.
  • Generate routine HR reports and workforce data as requested.
  • Coordinate system updates and work with external vendors to resolve issues.

Training and Professional Development

  • Coordinate required compliance training and track completion.
  • Maintain training records and assist supervisors in identifying development opportunities.
  • Support scheduling and logistics for internal and external training activities.

Compliance and Policy Administration

  • Support compliance with employment laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Assist with the implementation and communication of personnel policies and procedures.
  • Maintain personnel documentation and record retention practices.
  • Monitor employment law updates and coordinate with external HR consultants on complex matters.

Collaboration and Organizational Support

  • Partner with the Executive Director and supervisors to support workforce needs and employee engagement efforts.
  • Collaborate with external HR consultants on projects such as compensation reviews, salary benchmarking, and policy updates.
  • Provide suggestions for improving HR processes, communication, and employee experience.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to set and maintain professional boundaries with clients.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Must share in the agency's value of cultural competency and a willingness to be trained further in the understanding of different cultures.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license, current auto insurance, and ability to transport program youth as needed.
  • Completion of thorough criminal history and background investigation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to complete minor to moderate lifting up to 30 lbs.

  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and/or sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years of human resources experience.
  • Experience supporting recruitment, employee relations, payroll administration, benefits coordination, and HR compliance.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Experience working with HRIS and payroll systems.

Preferred

  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar HR certification.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit organization.
  • Experience with Paychex or similar HR and payroll platforms.
